Reciprocating Friction Descender
Challenge
Requirement for a unit that can be single or mass evacuation use, being lightweight and compact, easy to install and easy to use.
Development
Creating initial sketch ideas of how the product would operate and then via modelling technique create prototypes, which could then be evaluated and refined.
Solution
A friction geared solution, which can have either one or two pots on for better control on the descent mode. The unit being loose fitted with a 9 mm rope that is simply running around the top pulley. As one end descends the corresponding other end raises ready for the next user to connect. The final design being compact and lightweight.
